Power Prompter 2019.5

We just released the 2019.5 update of Power Prompter. This is the 5th update this year (so the 5 has nothing to do with the month May – just a coincidence).

This update adds some smaller features. Namely:

  • Min and max scroll speed settings that let you set the lower and upper bounds of allowable scroll speeds.
  • Scroll speed units. Finally you don’t have to guess anymore. Power Prompter now displays speed in Lines/Sec, Lines/Min, Words/Sec or Words/Min. You can change the unit in the General preference pane or by clicking the “Scroll Speed” label in the Script Inspector.
  • Words Per Line now has a number attached to it. This number is the average number of words per line in the script. Now you can adjust the words per line setting to a concrete number and be sure the script will be rendered in a way that you (or your talent) find preferable.
  • Holding down the w or s key in the teleprompter window will now adjust the scroll speed. No need to repeatedly press and release those keys.
  • We also fixed an embarrassing typo. (Which was very obvious – which makes it extra embarrassing).

The update is available now from our website. Mac App Store customers will have to wait 2 or 3 days till the app is through Apple’s review

  • Scroll line up/down shortcuts are now usable from the editor window.
  • Power Prompter can now react to key presses even when it is not the active application.
  • New default teleprompter key bindings: W and S to increase/decrease scrolling speed.
  • Preferences panel now features help buttons.
  • New keyboard shortcut cheat sheet window (help -> keyboard shortcuts).
  • Updated and improved documentation.

Bug fixes:

  • Shortcut labels in teleprompter are now displayed correctly.

The update is available now form the Mac App Store or directly from our website.

Power Prompter 3.0 is here

We’re happy to announce the latest update to Power Prompter. Version 3.0 is here and brings some changes like editing during prompting, intelligent copy & paste, improved screens inspector and support for PDF files.

The update is available now from our website and from the Mac App Store. To get the update simply go to the “Updates” tab of the Mac App Store – or if you’re using our direct download version click the “Check for Updates…” item in the “Power Prompter” menu.

Oh and if you’re wondering if there’s discounted upgrade pricing: No there isn’t. Because the update is free for all Power Prompter users 🙂

FYI Power Prompter now requires at least macOS High Sierra (10.13) to run. This is 98% of our user base. We of course continue to support older versions for users whose Macs run an earlier version of macOS.

Power Prompter Remote 2.0

We just released version 2.0 of the iOS Power Prompter Remote app. This update fixes “connection timeout” issues that might come up on iOS 12 when using Bluetooth.

We also took the opportunity to modernize the backend of the app so it will play better with modern iOS versions.

As the timeout bug affected only iOS 12 devices we decided to make this update iOS 12 only.

Power Prompter 2.5.4 – The Mojave Update

Today we released version 2.5.4 of Power Prompter. This update mostly makes the app play well with Mojave’s new dark mode. We now use native dark controls when running on Mojave and keep using our custom dark mode code when running on a macOS prior to Mojave. So it should all “just work” and look good. Please let us know if you find any strange glitches related to dark mode.

We also added three new indicator colors: Orange, purple and blue. We’ll be adding a color picker soon to this option so you will be able to customize this setting completely to your wishes.

In the background we enabled the new “hardened runtime” which hardens the app against changes by malware. At the same time we now let Apple “notarize” the app bundle before release. This means that if something should go wrong Apple will be able to remotely disable a specific build of Power Prompter. (We also have un-notarized versions available if you should need one. Just let us know.)

The update is live for our direct download users. Mac App Store customers will, as usual, have to wait a little longer till the review process is done and Apple lets the new update into the app store.

macOS Mojave and Power Prompter

We’re happy to announce that the latest version of Power Prompter (2.5.2) is fully compatible with Apple’s latest macOS release. We’ll be releasing a small update in the next few days, which will make the Power Prompter “dark ui” (which we had since 1.0) feel more native on Mojave. Stay tuned and have fun with macOS Mojave!

Power Prompter 2.5.2

We just released the latest update to Power Prompter. This update brings some bug fixes and a few improvements:

Bugfixes:

  • RTF/DOC import will now honor Italic and Bold font attributes
  • Power Prompter won’t change the icon of imported files anymore
  • Improvements:

  • Custom keyboard shortcuts which contain Control or Option keys will now work in every window
  • New highlight option “Blackout”: Darken non-highlighted text
  • New indicator color: Yellow
  • The update is available now for our direct customers. App Store customers will have to wait a little until the update passes Apple’s review process.

    Power Prompter 2.5

Recently we released Power Prompter 2.5. This free updates fixes a pretty serious bug and brings some smaller improvements:

  • We fixed a bug that would lead to a crash when the user performed an undo during teleprompting. The app will now prevent this from happening.
  • Sidebar scrollers will now auto hide. Some users complained that having them visible all the time was annoying.
  • Power Prompter will now automatically remember the values for margin, word count and scroll speed and use those as defaults for new documents.
  • We added compatibility for the upcoming big macOS update. Dark UI now looks native and will render correctly.
  • The update is available from our servers right now. If you’re a Mac App Store customer you will have wait a little longer until Apple completes their review of the update.

Power Prompter 2.3 Adds Support for MS Word Documents

We’re happy to announce that we added support for MS Word documents to Power Prompter. This feature has been a popular request so we spent the last few weeks working on it and now it’s available to all our users.

Though the support is pretty stable some limitations apply:

  • Unless you explicitly set a background color for your document in MS Word, Power Prompter will set the background color to white to prevent displaying black/dark text (MS Word default) on a dark background (Power Prompter default). You can prevent this by setting a custom background color in MS Word. Alternatively you can change the background and text color in Power Prompter after importing your Word document.
  • Power Prompter will overwrite custom text alignment settings. If you set a paragraph to be centered and another one to be left aligned then Power Prompter will overwrite both settings with its default (usually center). This is because Power Prompter doesn’t support text alignment on a per paragraph basis. While working in MS Word simply disregard any text alignment changes. You can set them later individually for each teleprompter window in Power Prompter.
  • While the support for MS Word files is pretty stable we can’t guarantee that more complex documents will be displayed properly. This includes embedded spreadsheets, movies, images, etc. Don’t go overboard with advanced MS Word functionality as Power Prompter is optimized for straight forward text documents. Adding anything “fancy” will most likely break your script or lead to performance issues. It’s best you limit the styling to italic/bold/underline and different text colors.
  • The update is available now via the Mac App Store or via our direct update functionality in Power Prompter!
