Power Prompter and macOS Catalina

After some testing with the officially available builds of macOS Catalina we’re happy to announce that Power Prompter works flawlessly with Catalina.

So if you were wondering if it’s OK to update your teleprompter machine to the newest macOS version: Go ahead.

Using the Elgato Stream Deck with Power Prompter

The Stream Deck from Elgato is becoming more and more popular with video producers. Even if you’re not a streamer the Stream Deck still is a handy tool to have. (One of our programmers uses it to control Xcode … so yeah – the use cases are many).

You can of course use the Stream Deck to control Power Prompter. The setup is very straight forward and we’re going to guide you through it in this blog post.

Great Teleprompter Training Videos

Recently we stumbled onto a great training series about working with teleprompters.

The good people over at telepromptermirror.com did a really outstanding job.

Watch their video series here: https://telepromptermirror.com/training/

PS: They seem to be very competent and generally good people as Power Prompter is on their recommended software list 🙂

Using the AirTurn DIGIT III with Power Prompter

Recently we got asked how to set up and use the AirTurn DIGIT III with Power Prompter.

While the DIGIT III looks like a standard presentation clicker out of the box it doesn’t speak the widely used Power Point protocol. So some extra steps are required to get it to work with Power Prompter. Luckily the process isn’t very complicated and can be finished in a few minutes.

iOS Remote 2019.5

We recently updated the iOS Power Prompter remote app to version 2019.5. This updated fixes an issue that would lead to a broken speed slider when used with Power Prompter 2019.5.

Please update both Power Prompter and the Remote app to the newest version to minimize any incompatibilities!

Power Prompter 2019.5

We just released the 2019.5 update of Power Prompter. This is the 5th update this year (so the 5 has nothing to do with the month May – just a coincidence).

This update adds some smaller features. Namely:

  • Min and max scroll speed settings that let you set the lower and upper bounds of allowable scroll speeds.
  • Scroll speed units. Finally you don’t have to guess anymore. Power Prompter now displays speed in Lines/Sec, Lines/Min, Words/Sec or Words/Min. You can change the unit in the General preference pane or by clicking the “Scroll Speed” label in the Script Inspector.
  • Words Per Line now has a number attached to it. This number is the average number of words per line in the script. Now you can adjust the words per line setting to a concrete number and be sure the script will be rendered in a way that you (or your talent) find preferable.
  • Holding down the w or s key in the teleprompter window will now adjust the scroll speed. No need to repeatedly press and release those keys.
  • We also fixed an embarrassing typo. (Which was very obvious – which makes it extra embarrassing).

The update is available now from our website. Mac App Store customers will have to wait 2 or 3 days till the app is through Apple’s review

Updates to our Money Back Guarantee

We recently updated our Money Back Guarantee. It’s now valid for 90 days instead of “just” 60 days. This means that you can return any purchase you made on our website within 90 days. No questions asked!

Please note that this only applies to software you buy directly from us. If you buy from Apple’s App Store then we can’t extend that guarantee to you and Apple’s returns and refunds policy (depends on your location – usually 14 days) applies.

This guarantee has been automatically extended for all recent purchases. So if you bought 61 days ago and want to return your software you can do so now for another 29 days.

PS: You might wonder why we’re doing this. Are we crazy and hate money? No, we want happy customers (no sense in keeping your money if you hate our product) and our refund rate for the past years is below 0.1% so we don’t think we’re going to go bankrupt any time soon 😉

Power Prompter: Versioning scheme update

We recently made a change to how we name Power Prompter versions. Instead of the familiar “3.2.1” scheme we’re going to number updates through a year now. So let’s say the 5th update of 2019 – the version would be “2019.5”. The sixth update would be “2019.6”, etc.

We made this change because the previous versioning scheme (called semantic versioning – you can look it up if you’re _that_ bored) didn’t fit the way we develop our software anymore.

We prefer to release frequent smaller functional updates. Semantic versioning on the other hand lends itself better to pooling features for “major” updates and release them once a year (or even further apart).

So that’s that. It’s a cosmetic change and you can happily ignore it.

Using the Contour ShuttleXpress to control Power Prompter

This short blog post is going to show you how you can use your Contour ShuttleXpress controller to control and operate Power Prompter.

The setup process is simple and once performed the controller will work with Power Prompter requiring no additional steps.
